I am pleased to let you know that Rabbi Dr Mijael Even David of Edgware Masorti Synagogue has again very kindly agreed to sell hametz on behalf of HEMS members. Please read the instructions below. –Rabbi Arberman
According to Jewish law, one must not have any hametz in his or her possession during Pesach. This is accomplished in a number of ways: we use up as much hametz as possible before the festival, we thoroughly clean our home, we check our homes for hametz and symbolically burn hametz we find, we recite a formula declaring any hametz that has not been found to be nullified “as the dust of the earth”. Finally, we sell any hametz we wish to keep over the festival to a non-Jew so that it will not be in our possession.
Anyone who wishes to sell their hametz, and to have the synagogue assist them in doing so should fill out the form below, appointing Rabbi Dr Mijael Even David of Edgware Masorti Synagogue to act on their behalf in the sale of hametz.
Contact the office for a form, which needs to be completed and returned to Rabbi Mijael Even David at Edgware Masorti Synagogue by mid-day Wednesday 5th April to guarantee that they will be processed before Pesach.
You could take sealed/unused hametz to your local food bank http://www.trusselltrust.org/foodbank-projects
