We will soon be placing an order for extra copies of Siddur Lev Shalem – for Shabbat and Festivals. Currently we have an order for 14 copies from members who have very kindly offered to donate these to the shul. As these copies have to be specially shipped from the States, to make our order worthwhile we would love to be able to order a total of 20 copies. If you are at all interested in sponsoring a siddur (to get to our total) either in memory of someone, or for a special occasion, please contact the office. The cost of each siddur is £30. We will place a label in each sponsored siddur with the name of the donor, and who it is in memory of (if applicable).
The font means the siddur is easy to follow and many of the prayers carry transliterated alternatives. The layout makes the siddur easy to read and in addition to contemporary translations of familiar prayers, there is a theme of commentary placing the prayers in context. The siddur is presented in an egalitarian format with options at various points to add the matriarchs in addition to the patriarchs. There are also readings and poems that can either be read aloud or allow the congregant an alternative reading of the regular or commonly known forms of prayer. It is published by the American Rabbinic Assembly and is aimed primarily at Masorti or Conservative Jews. At HEMS the feedback from using these new siddurim has been very positive.
