There is an acute issue facing non-Orthodox Judaism in the UK: there are currently just two mohalim working for the association, and one of these is hoping to retire! Anyone whose Jewish status is not recognized by the London Beit Din – which is a substantial and growing part of our community – is ineligible for a ritual circumcision from the Orthodox Initiation Society; which threatens to be a real problem for Progressive Jews.
Rabbi Anthony is organising a new training programme for medical professionals in the UK who are interested in learning more about this sacred work. There is an introductory session on Sunday 8th December from 11.00 am – 1.00 pm at the Sternberg Centre, London N3 2SY. This problem needs a whole community to resolve it – so please do forward this information on to any Jewish Doctors or Dentists you know.
