The chairs of Mosaic Jewish Community and our 3 constituent synagogues have announced the postponement of our Annual General Meetings originally planned for May
We had hoped this week to send you the formal notices convening the Annual General Meetings of Mosaic Jewish Community Ltd. and of the 3 constituent synagogues, Mosaic Masorti (HEMS), Mosaic Liberal and Mosaic Reform. We were planning to hold all 4 AGMs on Sunday 31st May. Given the current Covid-19 situation, it is clearly wrong for us to plan to convene the meetings for that date, and of course, at the moment, we don’t know when we will be able to convene the AGMs.
We’re writing to assure you that in the meantime, the members of the Board of MJC, and the members of the councils of the individual synagogues, will remain in post and continue to serve the community in these exceptional circumstances.
We would also like to reassure you that delaying the AGMs does not mean we are in breach of any of the terms of our constitutions or of any Charity Commission or Companies House requirements – not yet anyway. For example, under the MJC constitution, we have to hold an AGM once in each calendar year, and that the maximum period between AGMs is 18 months. As the last AGM was held on May 26th 2019, we have until November 26th to hold the 2020 AGM. There are similar provisions in the constitutions of the individual synagogues.
Let’s hope and pray we can convene the meetings for long before the latest dates required by our constitutions.
If you have any questions or comments, or matters you want the board to deal with, do please contact us, email chair@mosaic.org or via the Mosaic office.
Stay safe
Mark Phillips and Jeff Highfield (Co-chairs, Mosaic Jewish Community)
