At this time of year, we normally give out the yellow candle as per the picture. Nationally the candles will be lit on Yom HaShoah, which is on the evening of Wednesday 1st May, in memory of the lost generation and if possible we would like you to post a picture on social media. #yellowcandle.
Last year, Maccabi arranged for 30,000 candles to be sent out. This year, with nearly 4 weeks to spare, 44,000 have been given out. The picture shows a card of a 69 year old, who perished. Every candle pack has the name and age of an individual and where they originated from. Sadly there are many very, very young children.
This year, due to the Coronavirus, we have not been able to pack them locally, which is quite sad. Maccabi has agreed to send out candles to all those who request them.
