Our new Home – update 2

We shared with you a few weeks ago the progress that had been made in our search for a new home (you can read that again here), to take us forward as a vibrant community with potential to grow.  We are now able to share more information about this exciting development for our community.

Planning applications are being submitted for a building to become our new home, and for the redevelopment of Bessborough Road.  As we said at the open meeting and in our previous update the “deal” is subject to these plans being approved by the London Borough of Harrow – we need your understanding and support to achieve this approval.

The Location: Our new home will be at 65 Stanmore Hill, currently a petrol station on the main through-route between Stanmore and Bushey.  You can see the location on a map here

The location meets a number of key requirements:  It is close to the growing Jewish population of Bushey (where we now have more members than in any other “4digit” postcode), whilst also being readily accessible from Hatch End, Pinner, Kenton, Northwood, Wembley and beyond.  It remains in the London Borough of Harrow, which facilitates the sale and development of our existing Bessborough Road home to finance the move.

Our new home will enable us to offer new Jewish choices to the unaffiliated and unengaged nearby, while continuing to provide a vibrant community for our existing members.

It is being developed in partnership with Heronslea – a leading, award-winning developer of prestigious, beautiful new homes in North London, Hertfordshire and the Home Counties, with several developments in Stanmore and Bushey. Operating since 2002, Heronslea is run by a Jewish Board of Directors and therefore understands the needs of our Jewish community.

Parking and Transport: Access to our new home is clearly a key factor for all of us. Parking around Bessborough Road has become very problematic, and whilst Harrow has good public transport links many of these are not easily accessible from our current home.  The new property has vastly more parking available in the area, and we are developing other options for parking and transport with our transport consultant.

Timetable: The planning process is beginning now with our development partners Heronslea submitting applications for both the new Stanmore/Bushey site and redevelopment of Bessborough Road. We will provide further updates when the timescales for planning become clearer. In the meantime, life and our community will go on as it does now for activities across Mosaic, our synagogues and Hamakom.

Next steps -important dates for your diary:

On Sunday 23rd September, between 10.30 am and 12.00 midday at Bessborough Road there will be an informal drop-in Question and Answer session for all members, and the opportunity to see further details regarding the location, parking & transport, and some of the plans being submitted for the site.

On Thursday 27th September Heronslea is hosting a public meeting for residents around Stanmore Hill. We hope that you can attend to provide your support for the project – and if you can then please contact us to find out how you can advocate for us on the 27th.

As per previous update if you would like to get involved, or have any questions then please contact us
