Sad News Yvette Vinacour passed away on Tuesday after a very long illness. Yvette is survived by her husband Norman. They were both highly respected founder members of HEMS now known as Mosaic Masorti. Yvette and Norman moved to Shenley several years ago where they became involved with Shenley Synagogue.
March against Anti Semitism
The march last Sunday was extremely well attended. A special mention to the Head of Mosaic Security, Daniel Brown, who was there with many other CST volunteers helping to keep the marchers safe .

STOP PRESS: Mosaic Masorti AGM 22nd November At last night’s AGM Phil Austin and Gill Ross were successfully appointed as Co-chairs – congratulations to both incumbents.
Congratulations to our former Chair Edwin Lucas who was appointed as the synagogue’s very first Honorary President. Watch out for more information about this appointment which recognises Edwin’s unstinting service for the synagogue since it’s inception.
Congratulations to David Kosky who successfully stood to be a member of Council.
ROBERT PINKUS The sad loss of our second Chairman Robert Pinkus, of blessed memory, has reverberated around the community. At his funeral on Sunday Rabbi Anthony spoke powerfully about Robert’s special qualities which made him such a popular and respected member of our synagogue. We wish Robert’s daughters Susi and Rachel a long life.
THANK YOU
The organisers of the AJEX march at the cenotaph last Sunday would like to thank those in the community who supported the march.
The organisers of Mitzvah day would like to thank all members of the community for their assistance last Sunday. It did not go unnoticed and everyone’s efforts were appreciated.
DINNER INVITATION There are still a few places left for tomorrow’s Friday night service and meal with Rabbi Anthony and his family in their home. Please book by 0900 Friday morning.
PLEASE KEEP THE CASES COMING
We have collected 110 cases, bags and holdalls since we restarted our campaign to help newly released prisoners reintegrate back into society. If you have any spare items in your lofts, sheds, or spare rooms please let Edwin know….. they do not need to be new. In fact ‘well-worn’ is attractive as the recipient will not stand out in the crowd.
If you have a friend or relative who is unwell please contact Rabbi Anthony rabbianthony@mosaicmasorti.org.uk by noon on Friday if you’d like their name mentioned in prayers on Shabbat.
SOMETHING ON YOUR MIND? If you have a concern, an idea or a question please remember that Rabbi Anthony is available to chat to congregants: rabbianthony@mosaicmasorti.org.

The Wall: A workshop exploring the challenges of hostility, silence and other reactions at work and at home.
Monday 27th November, 8.15pm – 9.30pm at New North London Synagogue.
Join our Senior Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, our Chief Executive Rachel Sklan and Clinical Psychologist Deborah Golend for a workshop to process the walls of silence, or rage, that many of us are finding in our workplaces, with friends and at home. We’ll explore how to create safe conversations, even when dealing with different opinions, and share methods for coping. Click here to book.
The MJC Community Hub is visiting the Koestler Arts Exhibition on Wednesday afternoon 29th November at the Southbank Centre. We will be shown round at 3pm by one of this year’s exhibitors. This will be the 60th anniversary of the Koestler Awards with an exhibition of art by people in the UK’s criminal justice system. It is curated by Ai Weiwei who grew up in the far northwest of China, As an activist, he has been openly critical of the Chinese Government’s stance on democracy and human rights. One can purchase items at the exhibition.
We have collected 100 cases, bags and holdalls to date, since we restarted our campaign to help newly released prisoners reintegrate back into society. Please contact edwin.lucas6@googlemail.com if you have any spare items in your lofts, sheds, or spare rooms.. They do not need to be new and well-worn is attractive, as the recipient will not stand out in the crowd.
It is now only one week to go until our fund-raising lunch at 12.30 on Thursday 23rd November in aid of Magen David Adom, – Israel’s blood and ambulance service and the excellent work they do. The war between Israel and Gaza is now into its second month. Uncertainty abounds and the news is difficult for the locals and also for family and friends in the UK. We reiterate that Rabbi Anthony and Edwin are available, around the clock, to lend a listening ear to you. If you would like your family mentioned by name, or location where they are based in Israel, we will do so at the appropriate time in the service after our prayers for those that are not in the best of health.
With our growing community we have more members who wish to remember relatives and friends who are not keeping as well as they, or you, would like. Please contact Rabbi Anthony rabbianthony@mosaicmasorti.org.uk by noon on Friday if you would like their name mentioned in prayers on Shabbat.

We have had a message from one congregant about the effect on one family.
“Our two young grandchildren here are 11 and 13 and it has been hard to keep them occupied. But our daughter found a Jewish football club for every day just this week which was brilliant”.
Many of you will know family or friends of family who have been called up in the North and South of Israel .
The Maddy Family.
The Krisman family and the Four Krisman boys called up – ( tank commanders ) and their colleagues.
I was moved by the “knit in” mentioned in the bulletin last week, to make hats for the soldiers to keep them safe as part of the war effort. The knitting took place yesterday and the group meets on the first Wednesday of each month. If you would like the hat pattern please contact the Care Co-ordinator angela@choosemosaic.org

To participate in the Parade individuals just need to visit www.ajex.org.uk/paradebooking Deadline for ticket requests is Tuesday 7th November 2023. Please advise Edwin Lucas edwin.lucas6@googlemail.com who will be with the Stoke on Trent contingent, so he can look out for you.
Mark Reindorp Many of the original MM members from Hatch End will remember that Mark Reindorp was one of our co-founders alongside David Kosky, of the then HEMS. I ran into him this week at Pinner station for the first time in probably 16 years. He and Susie are well and they were on the way to the USA to see her family there. Marks’s children are both well with Joel living again in London and involved with the legal side of an airline and Sophie is with the Rambler’s Association in London. For the Shema members of old, he is in regular contact with Cindy Collick who he told me is very well too. Mark and Susie told us all about the war situation in Israel and how it is affecting their daily lives. He sends the community best wishes and hopes, like we all do, for a peaceful resolution.

Message & Video from the CST By the time you get this message, we will surely have passed 700 antisemitic incidents reported to CST these past 18 days: this compares to 803 in the first six months of this year.
So far, they are mainly not violent, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t deeply upsetting. It takes a very sick antisemite to scrawl Hitler moustaches on photos of children kidnapped by Hamas, as sent to us this morning from hostage posters on Finchley Road, London. Am Yisrael Chai,

Summertime
In the wee hours of this coming Sunday morning, the clocks will move back by 3,600 seconds. What are you planning to do with all these extra seconds? How about preparing a dvar for the future and telling Rabbi Anthony, on his return from the deep South – of the UK, that you would like to try something new? We like it to be around 7 minutes duration and if it relates to the week’s sedra, that is wonderful. If it does not directly relate, there will be messages from the sedra that you can relate to. Make use of your 3,600 seconds and in next week’s bulletin, we will give you ideas to work on for the next time this happens.

Tombstone Consecration The stone setting in memory of Joe Rubins (father of Annette Benson) will take place on Sunday 22nd October at 2.30pm at Willesden United Cemetery, Beaconsfield Road, London NW10 2JE.
Security
Daniel Brown, who leads security for MM alongside Jo Lewis on the rota front, have been reviewing security in light of all the sad news from Israel and the increased incidences of disturbances in the UK. Jo has reiterated the importance of attending rota slots, as it would appear from the attendees in recent weeks that not everyone turns up when they are allocated a slot. As a community, we have decided therefore to increase the numbers on security, to ensure that we have the minimum numbers required so everyone feels comfortable within the building. If you are planning to come to shul and would like to do an extra slot, please advise Jo who will be delighted to record your name. securityteam@choosemosaic.org
We have also had this letter from our area police liaison officer about meetings in Kensington for members who are interested in security and welfare.
Community Resilience Training for faith community leaders London Boroughs Faiths Network with support from the Greater London Authority will be running three courses this autumn and winter. Full details here and a flavour of our pilot course can be viewed here.
There will be six hours of learning from experts and colleagues in the emergency services, local authorities and voluntary sector including British Red Cross, Groundwork, CST, Victim Support, Thrive London. The idea is to build upon knowledge in case of future emergency situations.
It is targeted on faith organisations especially staff, trustees, lay leaders and volunteers responsible for community safety and wellbeing, as well as volunteer coordinators.
It will take place at Kensington Town Hall on 24th October, 31st October and 7th November, all 5.30pm-8.30pm including supper. Register on the GLA website

Thinking of you
The last week has moved from one of joy looking forward to Simchat Torah, to one of huge ongoing sadness, worry and personal trauma. We wish everyone strength at this moment in time, as the whole community know people in Israel who have suffered loss, with friends being displaced, hurt and undergoing great stress. Rabbi Anthony is around to help you in person, on the phone or through emails so you can offload your worries and share them with someone in the wider community.
This Shabbat we will be adding special prayers for the region. We are thinking especially of our family and friends, and hoping they should find strength and fortitude at this horrific time. There will be a chance to mention names of those you are especially thinking of, and losses you are especially mourning – if you would like any read out for you please write to RabbI Anthony at rabbianthony@mosaicmasorti.org.uk or me edwin.lucas6@googlemail.com with the names you want mentioned.
Our thoughts are with you and we are here for you in sad as well as good times.

This is a busy time for everyone in the community and none less than for our Rabbi. On behalf of all the people that have said to me how much they have enjoyed the services and felt uplifted I would just like to add A BIG THANK YOU for all the services you have organised, lead and helped others to be part of the community.
We would like to say a special thanks to everyone in the community who has helped in a myriad of ways over all the recent chagim period. This embraces, daveners, dvaristers, shofar sounders, Sukkah builders, Sukkah decorators, Security, Schleppers, kiddish generators, tidier uppers as well as buyers and providers. It is so appreciated. A special thanks to Gill Ross for being one of the Masterminders in getting things to the right place at the right time. Gill can now have a rest till the next barmitzvah which is Darwen Kafka.
