Mitzvah Day with Mosaic

We need as many volunteers as possible for all the activities below. Many activities on Mitzvah Day will take place at 39 Bessborough Road. Goods can be left at Bessborough Road labelled for Mitzvah Day . Please advise us in advance if you wish to go to Stanmore Common or Croxley Moor forinformation about where to meet. Come along and be part of the fun this Mitzvah Day – it’s a mitzvah! Most
activities will take place between 10.30 – 12.30 at HaMakom (Bessborough Road) unless otherwise stated.

Leket – Tote-Bag Project – Leket Israel is a food rescue organization delivering surplus food weekly to over 175,000 people. We will decorate/create tote-bags from recycled t-shirts which will be used by Israeli teenagers when collecting fresh produce. We need clean, plain adult T-Shirts to make into bags which children at HaMakom will decorate.

Gift boxes for the children of families supported by SUFRA – Sufra is a Community Food Bank & Kitchen, based in Brent, which offers a range of support services to disadvantaged families suffering food poverty. We will be filling shoeboxes with gifts for the children of families who use SUFRA. We need small gifts of pens, paper, colouring books, craft activities, toys and shoeboxes

Collection for Noah’s Ark Children’s hospice – There will collection points at all synagogues for unwanted clothes, bags, shoes and old mobile phones or bring them along on Mitzvah Day

For all ages: Environmental work on Stanmore Common and Croxley Moor – We will help the Conservation groups do some much needed work on Stanmore Common and Croxley Green. Both start at 10.00

For adults: 12:00 at Bessborough Road. “When does a toothbrush becomes a luxury item?” – SUFRA director Mohammed Mamdani will talk about the wonderful work SUFRA does to support the hungry poor in Brent. Poverty doesn’t just happen far away across the sea – it’s right here on our doorstep. Life can change suddenly from a comfortable routine to a desperate struggle for survival and – for those in dire need – a choice between clean teeth and going hungry is no choice at all. It will always be food. Entry to this talk is free but please consider bringing along tubes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and soap which SUFRA will
distribute with food packages for its clients.

Additional fun activities at HaMakom
We will make biscuits and plant bulbs for members of The Friendship Club, Mosaic and Tea and Talk, Kol Chai.
We will also make festival collages for ALEH – Israel’s largest organisation caring for people with disabilities
