Art Exhibition by Laura Reiter – Week 1

During March, Laura Reiter will be exhibiting her paintings.

Laura writes, “I am a painter/printmaker working in mixed media and screen printing. I am in love with colour and try to exploit it as much as possible in my work by layering one colour over another – sometimes transparent, sometimes more opaque.  The resulting colours and effects of colours on each other are exciting and often surprising.

I like to work organically making decisions according to the last mark or colour I have made so that the images grow into what they are going to be! The process of my work has become very much part of my creative journey.
My work is semi abstract, both in print and also in mixed media painting. With my screen prints I have recently worked on a series based on the subject ‘Flowers and the City’ exploring the contrast (often in a symbolic way) between the natural world (parks etc) and the manmade environment.  Now I am beginning to work on another idea – ‘there but not there’ – perhaps more abstract than recently, allowing images to appear, disappear and then reappear in the work suggesting mystery.

Both in painting and printmaking I use photos as memories and sometimes quirky objects I have found in various places.  These can help the narrative of the piece.

I have exhibited in many exhibitions and am a member of the Greenwich Printmakers, showing my work regularly.

I am also a teacher having taught for many years in a variety of settings and I have written two practical art books – Learn to. Paint Abstracts and Beginners Guide to Abstract Art and I have written many articles for the Artist and Illustrator Magazine and the Artist magazine”.
