A Turkish mystic who convinced hundreds of thousands that he was the Messiah before converting to Islam, Shabbatai Tzvi was a radical iconoclast who uprooted Jewish law and laid the groundwork for the Progressive movement. A dangerous fraud, or a religious genius? Shabbatai Tzvi is undoubtedly amongst the most compelling figures of modern Jewish history. In this three-part course taught by David Kosky, we will learn about that man, his ideas, and the movement he inspired.
