This has been postponed due to circumstances beyond our control. A revised date will be arranged as soon as possible
Hear first-hand from two outstanding speakers about the situation of Ethiopian Jews today and how Meketa, a UK charity, is helping to support the community.
There will be light refreshments and a stall selling Ethiopian hand-made tallitot, kippot and mezuzot.
Avraham Neguise was one of the first Ethiopian members of the Knesset and is the foremost campaigner from and for the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel. He was born in Gondar and went to school there, making aliyah to Israel at the age of 27. He was chair of the Knesset committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs.
Ambanesh Biru is the Head of Community Work for Meketa in Gondar. She grew up in Gondar, was previously chair of the Jewish community of Gondar and has been working with Meketa for over ten years.
Meketa raises funds to support Jews who remain in Gondar. Its goal is to provide educational support, training and livelihood improvement. Meketa tries to encourage children to stay in education and help them better their economic and social future. It runs training, employment support and microloan projects as well as provides an afterschool club for the community’s children.
