Erich Reich was born in Vienna in 1935. He was expelled with two older brothers to Poland and later arrived in London Docks in 1939 on Kindertransport. He went to Dorking with help from Rafe Vaughn Williams who was chairman of the Refugee Committee. Erich left for Israel in February 1949. He was educated at Kibbutz Merchavya and became a paratrooper, seeing active service in the 1956 War.
After returning to the U.K in 1957, Erich joined Thomson and Thomas Cook and later set up his own company Classic Tours. He has raised about £90 million for charity.
Erich was Knighted in 2010 and retired age 79 in 2014.
