Selichot with Masorti Alliance Synagogues

Saturday, September 21

In the Ashkenazi tradition, special prayers of repentance, called selichot, are said during the days before Rosh Hashanah, and it is customary to have an inspiring selichot service at the end of the Shabbat preceding Rosh Hashanah. Many shuls have large choral events but ours is intimate, warm and encourages participation. The music is evocative, lyrical and designed for everyone to join in. The service introduces some of the familiar melodies used during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Each year a group of smaller Masorti communities join together for this beautiful service, which is directed by   Chazan Jacky Chernett and includes a choir made up of members of the participating shuls. This year, Selichot will be hosted by Edgware Masorti Synagogue at 9.30 pm.  For the address, contact Jonathan or the Mosaic office.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please rsvp for seating and catering purposes – Jonathan Fenster, yonnyfenster@gmail.com, 07768 311824.
