Children

Torah Tots

At Torah Tots services Rabbi Middleton invites children up to the age of five, together with their parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and teddy bears, for a service with songs, stories, music, prayer. Above all, it is a chance to meet other young children and make lots of noise! The monthly services are held on the Bimah at 9:30am in Mosaic Reform, an hour before the main service. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and a special kiddush will be served before the start of the main service.

Shabbat Shira

Shabbat Shira services are unique family services, open to all ages. There is more singing, more music, and more noise than the traditional Shabbat morning service! The service encourages participation from everyone through musical accompaniment with instruments provided and offers a Torah service for everyone to follow. There is guaranteed to be plenty of spirit and youthful vigour!

The service starts at 11:00am at Mosaic Reform and finishes with a tasty kiddush and supervised activities. The morning invariably ends with our leading the singing at the end of the service downstairs and the children then pour on to the Bimah in order to close the doors of the ark at the conclusion of the service. Join us – you’ll love it!

Rabbi Kathleen de Magtige-Middleton writes: “Shabbat Shira is traditionally the name of Shabbat Beshallach, on which we read the Song of Moses (Exodus, chapter 15) hence the name the ‘Shabbat of Song’. We propose every Family Shabbat to be a Shabbat of Song.”

Family Friendly Friday

Family Friendly Friday is a chance for families with young children to enjoy an Erev Shabbat service and dinner at an earlier time than the regular Erev Shabbat service. This service, which is led by Rabbi Kathleen de Magtige-Middleton at Mosaic Reform, is less formal and more relaxed than the regular service. All are welcome – as long as you bring a dish to share for dinner! Family Friendly Friday takes place approximately three times a year.

Religion School

We have a successful Religion School attended by around 100 children called HaMakom – The Place.

Youth Movements and activities

We actively encourage our young people to get involved with the youth movements of their synagogue movements, and organise regular youth activities throughout the year.
