Shabbat comes in 3.39 pm: goes out 4.50 pm
AND HE MADE HIM A COAT OF MANY COLORS… Resh Lakish said in the name of R. Eleazar b. Azariah: A man must not make a distinction among his children, for on account of the coat of many colours which our ancestor Jacob made for Joseph, THEY HATED HIM.
This week’s parsha starts off the story of Joseph — one of the most interesting stories in the Torah. Along with it comes this lesson from Resh Lakish (above) about the dangers of favouring one child over another. I would extend the lesson to a include not favouring one over another when it can cause jealousy. So even in an office, classroom, or business — we might make each person feel special, but care should be taken not to show favouritism in front of others.
Shabbat Shalom,
