Award-Winning Documentary ” The Komediant”
Monday, 24th March @ 7:30 pm
Mosaic Culture Hub and Mosaic Israel Group will be hosting the Filmmaker Oshra Schwartz for the showing of her award-winning documentary relating the glory days of the Yiddish stage brought to life in this funny saga of a legendary theatrical family, the Bursteins. The patriarch, Pesach Burstein, who arrived in New York in 1924, met and married his love and with their children entertained on stage in America and across the globe.
Buy your ticket below. £10 per person.
Komediant shows the family’s adventures across the 20th century, from the shtetls of Eastern Europe to Broadway.
Smoothly incorporating rare archival footage and interviews with Yiddish stage veterans, this tightly edited, briskly paced documentary is as richly bittersweet, filled with laughter and tears, schmaltz and grit, as the Yiddish theatre itself.
It is in English, Yiddish and Hebrew, with English subtitles.
After the screening, there will be a Q & A session about the film.
We will also hear of Oshra’s current involvement, post 7th October, with the Israeli Reform Movement and the devastated kibbutzim, including Kibbutz Re’im, our adopted project in Israel.
All profits from this event will go to Kibbutz Re’im.

Tea with the President
Sunday, 30th March @ 3:30 pm
Phil Rosenberg, who became President of the Board of Deputies on June 1st last year, has already changed the face of the Board in several ways. He is putting into practice many of the proposals he made in his manifesto.
We now have Lady Chairpersons at all of our Plenary meetings.
Very recently, Phil set up a commission, being chaired by Lord John Mann and recent Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordant, to look at current anti-Semitism in the UK. This follows the recent panel debate at Mosaic last January.
Phil was instrumental in the setting up of the ‘Optimistic Alliance’ between the Muslim and the Jewish Community in mid-February.
Phil will explain these actions and many other proposals, standing up for peace and security in Israel and the Middle East, how we make our community more united and inclusive, and how we should celebrate our faith and culture as British Jews
There is no charge for this event but for security purposes, please RSVP.
