Strangers in a Strange Land

Monday, 24th November @ 7:45 pm

Strangers in a Strange Land – exile, refuge and settlement: Jews and non-Jews.

Sidney Fenton Education Foundation is delighted to sponsor this free series of study sessions led by Angela Gluck

The last in this series of 4 sessions will take a wide-ranging look at the essence of the Jewish story of exile, refuge and settlement —which is written all over our history. It will explore the wisdom of Jewish tradition about what it means to be a wanderer and the strong moral value of those who are settled supporting those who are unsettled.

With its relevance to contemporary events, the series will be illustrated with historical and contemporary material from Jewish and many other sources. They will include first-person testimony, poetry, film and traditional texts.

Advance booking is required and participants are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible – see below. While participants are encouraged to attend all 4 sessions, each session will be of interest in its own right.

Carly Rose – “And Breathe” – Week 1

Monday, 1st December @ 8:00 am to Friday, 5th December @ 5:00 pm

Carly discovered painting a few years ago, at a time when she was searching for a creative outlet to balance the busyness of life as a primary school teacher and a mum of two. What began as a quiet way to carve out some “me time” quickly grew into a passion. Painting has allowed her to unwind, express, and explore a whole new side of her creativity.

Her work is full of energy and vibrancy, using a lot of colour and texture. Carly takes her inspiration from many different areas, the natural world, people and a love of travel. Recently, she has expanded her craft to pottery and has found a different artistic channel through creating pieces by hand.

Until now, Carly’s paintings have been personal – created purely for enjoyment or gifted to family and friends. This exhibition marks her first time sharing her work more widely, an exciting and slightly nerve-wracking step!

Carly’s exhibition will be held from 1st – 31st December.
